Objective
This course is designed for the preparation and administration of medication. It’s purpose is to prepare the student to become a medication technician, qualified to administer selected categories of medications to residents of long-term care facilities. The student will work under the supervision of the Licensed Nursing personnel according to state approved curriculum. Techniques for oral, ophthalmic, optic, topic, transdermal patches, oral metered dose, nasal, vaginal, rectal, and administering oxygen by nasal cannula are taught.
After passing the CMT certification, the student will be given instructions in Insulin Administration.

Graduates of this course have great opportunities for career growth. Most are currently working as a CNA and this gives them an opportunity for advancement in their position and rate of pay.
Pre-requisite
Verification of a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
Achieves a minimum score of 8.9 on both Vocabulary and Comprehension tests and a minimum score of 7.0 on Mathematics Concepts and Application on the Tests of the Adult Basic Education (TABE). The TABE test is administered by the public education sector.
Listed as active on the Missouri CNA registry and employed as an approved Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) for at least six (6) months prior to enrollment in the CMT course.
Submits a letter to the training agency from the student's administrator or director of nursing recommending the student take the course or a letter from a previous long-term care employer if unemployed.
Classes meet Monday & Wednesday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a half hour for lunch for five weeks and 9 additional classroom hours. Two 8 hour Fridays for 16 hours and one 8 hour day for Insulin Administration.
